Walking through its doors feels like stepping back into a classic saloon, where the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff greets you with prompt, friendly service that makes you feel right at home.
The culinary highlights here center around expertly prepared steaks and robust country fare. The portions are generous, often leaving guests satisfied yet challenged to save room for dessert.
What truly sets Boss Hogg's apart is the authentic, no-frills approach to its menu. The Chicken Butts are a standout, rich with seasoning and a favorite among regulars. The steak options come with hearty sides like freshly cut, house-made fries and a classic baked potato, loaded with all the fixings. The salad bar is fresh and offers a wonderful complement to the robust mains.
While some recent feedback mentions a bit of messiness on the plates, particularly with salads and gravy mingling unexpectedly, the overall commitment to quality and flavor remains apparent. It’s the kind of place where food feels honest and comforting, echoing the down-home charm of its setting.
Beyond the food, Boss Hogg's embodies a slice of Colorado’s heritage with its Western-themed décor and a full bar that enhances the dining experience. Whether you're a traveler passing through or a local craving authentic country cooking, this saloon welcomes you with open arms and a menu that celebrates hearty, well-executed flavors.
“ Getting a bit pricey these days. Food is really good, but really messy on the plate lately. This time with gravy in salad and vegetable water/juices were all over the plate making soggy breading on chicken fried steak. Staff is very nice and prompt even though very busy. ”
“ We were traveling through LA Junta and asked our Hotel owner for recommendations of locally owned restaurants for supper and this was one of 2 they recommended. The atmosphere was saloon like. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was OUTSTANDING! I like my rib eye steak medium rare and it's usually served medium. This came exactly as ordered with outstanding flavor! My spouse ordered chicken fried steak and loved it! ”
“ Good meats! Good eats Great Service! TY Lexi Pro Tip: Just try and leave room for dessert I had the combo plate and the wife had the bacon wrapped filet mignon. Both were good. Combo had big portions, and a large baked potato with all the trimmings. Want able to finish it Our waitress (Lexi) was an attentive, enthusiastic, pretty lil lady who checked on us repeatedly. Quick with refills and checking in. Would recommend Would visit again if I'm the area ”
“ When you are in the mood for steak, you just have to try a place called Boss Hogg's - even if it is just one visit. 1. Having read some of the previous and recent reviews, I was not sure what to expect but we decided to take a chance. 2. Cleanliness - the parking lot was clean of trash, the bathrooms were acceptable, but with two toilets in the ladies' room and no separating wall or doors, it left some to be desired. The rest of the restaurant seemed clean and the tables were not sticky. 3. Staff - welcoming and friendly. Even though not overly busy, she was attentive to filling our drinks when empty. 4. We tried a couple of appetizers including the chicken butts and the snake bites. Both are built around a jalapeño popper and were incredible. Probably the best we have ever eaten. 5. Three of us got a salad from the salad bar and it was just an ok option. Only one type of lettuce and the rest of the options were for toppings like cheese, croutons, bacon bits, cherry tomatoes, etc. 6. On to the rest of the food: A) Probably best baked potato I have had in a very long time. B) Homemade bread was very tasty, although the end piece was a little on the crusty side like it had sat for awhile. C) Being a saloon as well, all types of drinks were on offer. D) The smoked chicken is possibly the best we have ever had. It was not overpowering and was an entire half of a chicken. E) This is where things were a bit of a letdown - the steak and the fries. Three different steaks were purchased. The fat was grisly and not one of the three were cooked correctly (two mediums and one medium-well). They were bland at best and obviously not a good cut of meat. This may not always be the case but it was with us. If we returned, we would get the chicken before we got the steak again. As for the fries, they were homemade, but had zero flavor like the chef for the day forgot to add any seasonings including salt. F) Another purchase was the blue cheese burger which was very tasty and a generous size. Again, fries were not great. Overall impression, the steak was not worth the price, but the appetizers, burgers, and chicken was definitely worth it. We would probably try this place again even though a little on the pricey side. ”
“ Great small town country food, Western atmosphere, good friendly small town, some of the best cut ur own fries in Colorado. Good soup and salad bar. People from the city would call it a throwback from a bygone era. People from here just call it good local country food large portions great sandwiches, burgers, and steaks! Fries are made from cut in house Colorado potatoes n they're very good. Some old fashioned good waitresses too. Especially during day. The younger ones in the evening aren't bad either. Pretty fast except when super packed n busy. ”
